Glucose changing

I have been very worried about my glucose, my lab result was 137 so I am monitoring it at home. My 8 hour fasting can range from 108-140 , after drinking a soda not sugar free and a few pieces of candy I was at 235 and 3 hours later at 131.

My mother was a non insulin diabetic and so was her mother. My Dr. wants to check my glucose 2 hours or more after meals and I am going to have a A1C done. If the A1C is within normal range do you still need meds.

Thank you for your time.

Hello,

your reported numbers are not normal.  normal fasting is in the 80s.  Your fasting levels would already classify  you as diabetic, as would your response3 to eating a few pieces of candy.  I would expect that your hba1c will also be high (completely non-diabetic hba1c is < 5.0).

Your risk of diabetes is very high given your family history.

You may be able to control with low carb diet for a while, and exercise, and weight management.  However, do not hesitate to take appropriate medications, as control of blood sugar levels is very important to prevent complications later.
