Husband keeps black eye.........Hypoglycemia?

My husband always has a black eye. It is so bad sometimes that he gets asked about 10 times a day who punched him. He told me it has been that way since he was 18 (he is 34 now) and that he was told by his mom (who is not a doctor) that it is from Hypoglycemia. She assumes because she is Hypoglycemic, that he is too. She does not have black under her eyes. No matter how well he eats, the black never goes away.

My questions are....First, is this where the black eye comes from? Second, should he be on medicine if he is Hypoglycemic? Third, is there anyway to get the black eye to go away (I am tired of people thinking I beat him =)?

Yes the balck under the eyes is a symptom of Hypoglycemia. You can keep in touch with me at ***@**** and we can discuss this more ..  I am a Naturopathic Doctor . conventional doctors dont make such relations to the body but we do. You can tell alot by looking at ones tongue, skin, eyes, etc.

We're volunteers here and not medical professionals, so it's best for your hubby to check in with his doctor about this.

I have not found any association between "chronic" black eyes and hypoglycemia.  I know that many folks from Eastern European descent have shadows under our eyes.

Since your hubby has had this since he was a teen, it's likely just one of those charming features that might get stronger with age.  If I were looking to understand it better, I'd check in with a dermatologist.

Most dark circles around the eyes are genetic. It can be caused by blood pigment around the eyes or increased pigment from cells called nevi. Treatment is with bleaching creams ...
