Empresa - anyone can get ketones. diabetic or not, if the right conditions are present in the body.

Temer - Ketones are a toxin and can cause severe damage to the body. It's also a sign the your body is in great distress. The side effects associated with ketones include temporary dizziness, headache, lethargy, weakness and, diarrhea and nausea. Other problems associated with ketones include unpleasant body odour and bad breath, and loss of muscle tissue. The long term results of ketones in the body are serious.

Ketones can cause all kinds of damage to vital organs such as the liver and the kidneys. The build-up deranges the body’s balance of acids and alkalines, causing a condition called acidosis. When the levels of ketones in the body reach dangerous proportions,  you can slip into a coma, which may result in death.

Always contact your Dr. if ketones are suspected or found to be present in your system.

You don't need to test for them if you are type 2.  My grandma was type 2 and she never had to watch for that. However, you can go into an hyperosmolar coma if your sugar gets extremely high.
