Should I take medicine

I just saw my doctor and she told me I had an FBS of 118 and my Hba1c was 6.6%. I have not been dianosed with diabetes. She said that I still not a type 2 diabetic but just to be safe she told me to start taking glucophage once a day for 1 week and increase to 2x a day after that. Then I will repeat my tests in January. Should I start taking the meds as she prescribe. I am not overweight and no one in my family is diabetic.

Thanks

Hi I am the daughter of a type 1 diabetic and I am a type 2 diabetic, for the past 10 years.  I can tell you that a A1C of 6.6 is high.  They like to see that number 5 or under.

Your doctor probably put you on glucophage becaust your numbers are high.  But if your concerned call them.

P.s  Just because your not overweight doesn't mean you can't get type 2 diabetes.

I am not a physican, buyt the mom of a type one diabetic and the daughter of type 2 diabetic.

Glucophage is used for type 2 diabets.    I am not usre what the FBS test is.  The doctor might feel that you are a borderkine diabetic and is doing this to see if it it will helplower your a1c.

I would callyour doctor and express your concerns or get a second opinion, if you do nort feel comfortable withwhat your doctor told you.

hope this hepls- please stop back and olet us know how things are going.
