Weight gain with correction for thyroid disorders?

If someone has a hyperactive thyroid land and they get it corrected/taking medications and what not for it, does this mean that they will definltey gain weight since their metabolism will slow down significantly? And will this person be able to maintain their old ways of eating a lot, due to the disorder in the first place?

I am diabetic and had Graves Disease-another name for hyperactive thyroid.  I say had because I have since had my Thyroid removed.  When I experienced the hyperactive thyroid I could eat more and did not gain weight but lost it like yourself.  Once you get you thyroid regulated you cannot keep eating the way you did because you will gain weight, just like any other person who eats more than necessary.  Keep taking the medication-even if you think it is a good way to easily lose weight--if you don't you could get very serious complications.

Hi.  I understand your intent to get expert opinions, but unfortunately the volunteers that staff this forum are experts in type 1 diabetes and not thyroids.  There is a thyroid forum, have you asked your question there?
