are these symptoms of diabetes?

I was wondering if these symptoms are somehow related to diabetes (my grandmother has type 1 since she was young and my mother had it when she was pregnant).  A few years ago I started putting a glass of water on my bedside table since I wake up a couple of times per night to drink water.  I usually wake up around 3-4 times per night (more or less), and I sometimes need a refill of my glass.  I urinate quite a lot too.  Since a few months ago I've been eating so much, I'm always hungry.  I don't gain weight though (I'm 5'4-5'5 and weigh 110lbs), I've actually lost about 5-7 pounds since last month.  I have a history of fainting (I used to faint quite a lot when I was young, usually when I didn't eat a lot that day).  I feel faint and quesy if I don't eat every few hours (2-3 hours).  I get headaches almost everyday (I have gotten my eyes checked this year and I have glasses since I was in grade 7).  I'm also always tired (I make sure to sleep at least 8-10 hours per night).  Oh and I forgot to add, I'm 18 years old.

Oh, and about the eyesight.  I have been noticing that I can't see as good as I used to last week or so (I wear glasses, and I just got new ones last year).

Thank you for your input.

I have been checking my sugar everyday (when I wake up, when I get home from university and before I go to bed), and the numbers seem to go up.  Now my fasting is at : 7.3 , and when I got home from university yesterday it was at 8.5 (it was 5:00, and the only thing I ate was a soup at 11h).

I went to the doctors and I am schedualed to go for blood tests next week.

Hey Melbidd! I'm a type 1 diabetic, diagnosed 3 years ago when I was 17. All those symptoms you're having were exactly like mine - I also found my vision went awful! I went from perfect 20/20 to not being able to read the milk container (it returned to 20/20 once I got the insulin in me!)

I highly suggest you got to your doctor.. Your fasting blood sugar (when you wake up in the morning before eating anything) seems high - usually mine is in the 5.0-5.6 range. High blood sugar over a long period of time can become dangerous - keytones can build up in your blood.

Better to be safe and see a doctor! They'll be able to help you get checked out! I'll be thinking about you!

Yesterday my mom borrowed one of my grandmothers blood sugar monitor so I could check my blood sugar.  The first time it was 6.6 (I didn't eat anything approx. 2-3 hours before) and the second time it was 7.7 (2h after my supper).  I took one this morning before eating and it was 6.1.  I made sure to clean my finger really well before.  What does this mean?

Thank you for the response.

I went to the pharmacy last night to get my blood sugar tested, but the technician that worked there could not get the thing (the thing that you p**** your finger with, I don't remember what it's called) working so she told me to go tonight after university.

I have been keeping count of how many times I pee per day (I will post that tonight with the results of the blood sugar test), which has increased significantly, and I know it's not a urinary track infection cuz I had one last year and I needed to pee every like 5 minutes and nothing would come out.  I now need to pee every like 30min-1h and it's always a big enough quantity (I would say like my usual, maybe a bit more).

I don't know if it's normal or not, or that I'm just getting a cold or something but this morning I could not finish my breakfast (even though I'm really hungry) because of the way I felt (nose congestion, headache, nausea, and more tired than usual).  I do not have a sore throat though, which is usually the way my colds start.

Your experiences sound very much like our daughter's experiences.  It's easy to find out, call your doctor and have your blood sugar level checked.  If you are type one, you will of course want to know right away.  If not, your doctor should know about your experiences anyway.  At the very least, you won't be worrying about type one diabetes any longer.  Good luck
