I am not a physican, but the mom of a type 1 diabetic and the daughtert of a type 2.  I have not heard of and corrilation of type 1 or 2 and asbestos.  Asbestos usually effects the lungs and the pulmonary system not the pancreas.

Hello,
As you may know, we're physician here, but regular folks with a lot of experience with Type 1 diabetes.  I don't know of any direct association between asbetos exposure and diabetes, but I did find this link from the National Cancer Institute with general Q&A on asbestos exposure.

If you have a medical school nearby, you might consider visiting their library to learn more about what medical research has shown about health risks due to asbestos exposure.

Others here may know more and have additional references for you, too.

Good luck.
