diabetes and rotavirus

I have read about a possible connection between rotavirus and juvenile diabetes.

My 5yrold daughter was hospitalised with rotavirus 3 yrs ago.  She has just recently had another stomach virus causing vomiting and diarroah.  Other family members also got the virus but we have all now recovered. My daughter is still suffering with thirst, nausea , vomiting and fatigue/listless a week later.

Do you think it is possible that  she may be developing juvenile diabetes?

Thankyou for your follow up comments.  It seems she was just suffering from a stomach virus .  She has had a checkup and everything seems fine now.  Your forum is very interesting and provides a valuable service.  Thanks again!

Mum,
How is your daughter doing now?  Have you been able to get an appt with a physician?

As I mentioned in my previous comment, the symptoms you describe are often associated with undiagnosed diabetes, but they can also be symptoms of other conditions that only her doc can correctly diagnose.

I hope you'll check in again soon.

Mum,
I'm not a physician, but the symptoms of untreated diabetes include thirst, frequent urination, and tiredness.  Some children are diagnosed shortly after some other health problem like a virus, so I urge you to have her evaluated right away.  Diabetes is certainly treatable ... and the sooner one gets an accurate diagnosis, the better.

Please check in again, for you may get other replies ... and let us know what the official medical evaluation shows.

All the best,
