Can I have Sugamet even if I dont have diabetes? Urgent..

My doctor prescribed me Sugamet 500mg , the one used by diabetic patients to control sugar. I have irregular periods and have hormonal problems ( high prolactin levels). Should I have that medication, because I dont have diabetes. Does this medication have any side effect or create any problem for those without diabetes?

Hello,

this medication is metformin, I believe.  It is quite commonly used to treat PCOS (polycystic ovarian disease) in women (which affects menstrual cycle).

You may research this further.

Did you ask the MD why he wants you on Sugamet?  Sugamet is a safe drug, some people use it for weight loss.
