Genetic factors play a huge roll, my father has it and my mom mom had it. I eat a heathy diet and my A1c was still high. Just placed on meds this week.

Hi #9, here is some information from MedHelp.org about diabetes prevention.

As other posters have suggested, genetics are a factor.

You can also find this in our Sugar Sense diabetes app, in the Health Guide under the Expert Answers section.

I was diagnosed in Aug of 2016, at that time my sugar level was 782.  No one in my immediate family has diabetes, do have a first cousin that does. Before then I would skid meals ( breakfast and or lunch) and eat like a horse at dinner. I would not really pay attention to what or how much of anything I ate, whatever looked good or sounded good I ate including
All sweets.  I would think that poor eating habits did it for me. I am 5'8 and 158 lbs and pretty fit for 58 years old.

It is mostly genetic-based.  I am a T2 and so is my mom, I had a cousin who was a T1, my sister and my daughter are hypoglycemic.
