Hole in Foot

I have a friend of mine in bad health right now.  On top of that, he has this "hole" in his foot on his left heel.  The heal is all hard and callused, with a hole in the middle of the callus almost 1/2 inch deep and 1/2 inch round.  The inside looks very raw like a raw piece of meat.  Can I get some help as to what this is and how he can treat it?  Thank you!

Hi there!

This is likely to be an ulcer with granulation formation. Management in such a situation is best discussed with his treating doctor and may consist appropriate measures of infection control such as antibiotics, debriment etc and control of blood sugar levels.
Hope this helps.

Take care!

Tell your friend to get to his doctor immediately! He has diabetic foot ulcer and if it gets infected, he could have to face amputation of the foot and possibly his leg. Don't mess around with waiting for an appointment either! Get him in or take him to the emergency room.
