Meal planning

hi, I'm new to diabetes so I'm not really sure what kinds of food would be best to help lower my BS. Are they any free classes that help educate you with meal planning?

Hi! I was just diagnosed in Oct/2014. I have just recently figured out my ideal diet and my bg is staying under 100. I found out it is different for each person. You have to learn by trial and error, unfortunately. A good book to read is Diabetes for Dummies. And a must-have is the Official Pocket Guide to Diabetic Exchanges. Good luck and we're all here for support!

That is what diatitions are for
    HOWEVER

each diabetic is different the diatitions try to make everybody eat the same. that does not work for controlling BG.

The only way for you to see what meal plans work for you is with a BG meter.  Teast before you eat Idealy your BG is under 100 (probably not if your diabetic).  Count the carbohydrates in your meal.  Eat. test your BG 1 hour, two hours after you eat.  You are looking for BG to always be under 140 (BG over 140 causes damage to your body)  or less than a 40 Pt rise in BG.  If your BG rises more than 40 Pts you eat too many Carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates raise BG  ALL carbs raise BG whole wheat, brown rice, pasta, most fruit will raise BG.  some people can tolerate more carbs than other people.

This is called "Eat Too Your Meter" google it.
there are other Forums that can help too.
