Type 2 diabetic with skin issue

My husband has type 2 diabetes. He has an open sore on lower abdomen, which he just showed me. It is about 2 inches in diam. Small amt. of fluid & bloody discharge. It almost looks like a bruise under the over hang of belly. Is this an emergency (weekend) or ok to wait until Monday? He is insulin dependent & s/p cardiac grafts & stents.

Your husband does require urgent medical attention with this open sore.
A 2" diameter open wound is a fair size and as it is oozing a bloody discharge seems that this is infected.

Any wound on a person with diabetes should not be neglected no matter how small.  Wounds do not heal very well in people with diabetes and neglected wounds can end up being very dangerous to the detrimental health of the person.

Make an urgent appointment to see your doctor for a swab to be taken of the wound and for an antibiotic to be prescribed urgently.

Thanks for your assistance. Since he is a heart patient, I do not trust local hospital. From experience with 85 yr old Mother, I know they like to change pt meds. If you think he needs to be in hospital, I will take him to Heart Hospital. It is only 1hr away.

You should go to the emergency room. He meets admission criterion.
