Your fathers BG is high enough that switching to whole grain is not going to be much help.  carbohydrates (carbs)  raise BG....   all carbs raise BG whether or not they are whole grain or not, carbs raise BG.  most fruit is also full of carbs.

he needs to test his BG before he eats and 1 hour after he eats.  BG before he eats should be under 100 and after he eats under 140.

to get his BG  there. drugs, if oral drugs dont work then insulin.

I am not an MD but diabetes damages nerves and the poor r progression and flat "T" wave sound like nerve damage to the hart, probably from high BG.

You need to refer to the range on his medical report, as different labs have different ranges.

The way for your father's kidneys to recover / not get worse is to get his blood sugar under control, and good control.  There is no other way.

As diabetes is often hereditary, this is also a good time for you to take care of yourself and y our own health.

Hello,

From what you describe your father should be on insulin.  He is very young to be having such high blood sugars.  If they are not controlled his quality and quantity of life is surely going to be very badly affected.

When on insulin it is very important to take the correct dose and also to control what he eats.

I recommend that he follow a very low carb / moderate protein / high fat diet.  This will help in controlling blood sugar.  However, he also needs medications (and with such high blood sugars insulin, possibly combined with metformin/Glucophage to reduce insulin resistance, would be an appropriate regime to discuss with his doctors).

My fathers age is 52. But the problem is that when he changes his medications his bg will come under control and after a month or so again his bg will go 250+. Its happening from 10 years the same

He needs to do what will control his BG. if he can do that with pills then fine if he cant he needs insulin.

Most pills force the pancreas to make more insulin if the pancreas cant make any more then injected insulin is needed.

The number one thing is getting his BG down under 140 and BG over 70

How old is your father?
typically a person in their 70s would need slightly higher BG
~ 90 to 160

His h1AC is over 9. And from 10 years no insulin is taken. Only oral medications. Is it compulsory to take insulin?

Tired, sleepnig, no energy is a sign his BG is too high.  It can also be a sign of many other problems.

Diabetes is a disease of un-controled blood sugar (BG)  BG changes, eating carbohydrates will raise BG.  Exercise, drugs lower BG.

the ONLY way to find out what works and what doesn't is to test his BG.  There are other forums that can help, google "diabetes forums" or "diabetes newsgroups"

BG over 140 in the USA (7.8 in the rest of the world) is causing damage.

Hello,
the treatment is to get his blood sugar under control.
Under control means fasting is 80-100 range and after eating should be < 140.

If he is not already on insulin then he should be.

You need to work with yoru father's doctor and preferably an experienced diabetes educator.

Cotnol his diet to restrict carbs and sweets and moderate protein, and healthy fats.  Are you in india?  This may be challenging if he is vegetarian / likes to eat carbs.

But bottom line is that his blood sugar needs to be controlled.  If it is not, his health condition will continue to get worse.

That BG (blood sugar) is too high if he doesn't have complications already, he will.

You tell me if he has complications I dont know him and cant examine him.

Complications from diabetes
hart problems
kidneys
liver
eye sight
feeling in feet/legs/hands
loss of blood circulation if feet/legs that can lead to infections that wont heal then amputations.
