do I have diabetes?

Hi, I thought I posted my question but can't find it now.  I recently gained some weight due to having my ovaries out.  I don't have the classic symptoms of diabetes, but I tested my BG level and it was 180 after eating sugary cereal  I thought it was kind of high so I tested it again in the morning and it was 150 after sleeping all night.  I checked it again in few hours and it 115.  (still had not eaten)  Now I ate a salad and a little carb, and it is 150.  This all sounds like a lot to me, but I am not used to checking my blood sugars so I dont know what is normal at different times of the days.   My questions to you guys is 1. do you think I might have diabetes? 2. when is the best time of day to check your blood sugar? 3.  Does anyone know if vitamin b (niacin) makes bs go up?  Thanks!

She says I have pre diabetes,d oesn't want to give me the diagnosis yet cause my ha1c came back good,  I dont know but my hormones have been very wacky since I had my hysterectomy, I have weaned off my estrogen and kept taking a high dose of progesterone.  I really think it made my sugars go up too.  I did ask the doctor and she said "well possibly"  with very high doses, but of course she didnt recommed testing me for hormone levels.  I have my yearly gyn visit due soon, so perhaps I will have him do a hormone panel or something like that.

In the mean time, I am losing some weight and exercising everyday.  I am also eating low carb now, which I used to do for years, but since my surgery I have slacked off on eating right , have gained weight etc. etc.  This was a wake up call for me, and I am lucky to have discoverd it early.

I am still testing myself several times daily.  The low carb seems to really keep it down low, but I am still worried cause when I eat a few carbs, ( wheat bread, wheat pasta) it goes up to about 170 an hour after eating.  I dont know what is normal.  I have posted a question to the doctor about that, though some of you probably know just as much from living with this disease :)

Anyway, thanks so much for asking!!  hugs... Shannon

The best time to test your blood sugar is in the morning, before you eat anything. Anything over 100 is suspect. You need to see your doctor, and have some blood tests done. An A1C test gives a 3 month average of your blood sugar. You do sound like it may be Type2 diabtes is your results are accurate. You should see someone soon, so that you can start on medication and alter your lifestyle. There are so many complications if not controlled, up to and including dying. It is not something to mess around with. But it is a controllable disease.. Not sure about hormones affecting blood sugar. I'm 60 years old, post surgical menopause, and don't take any hormones. Good luck. Please see your doctor soon.

I just did some research and it seems that estrogen helps blood sugar go down and progesterone makes it go  high.  I recently went off estrogen and  still take progesterone.  Does anyone know anything about how hormones affect blood sugar?  Thanks
