Eat foods made with whole grains such as wheat, oat, and nine grain breads. Avocados, almond and cashew butters are good too. Add beans, fish, chicken or turkey to your daily diet to add lean protein. Meats should be broiled, boiled, steamed or baked and prepared with seasoning instead of breaded. If you eat fruits eat them with other foods to slow fructose [fruits sugar]. If you eat yogurt read the nutrition label carefully as most have added sugar to sweeten the flavor.

Read the post below on 'Breakfast' to get an idea of breakfast foods.

Try to avoid white foods as they quickly turn into sugar after eating. For example potatoes, white rice, foods made with white flour - crackers, white breads, cakes, muffins.

Use Google search to understand the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple is bad, complex carbs are better as simple carbs to diabetics is the same as consuming sugar.

You'll need to eat more fat and protein along with whole grain slowly digestible carbs.  Avoid highly process carbs and cakes, candies, cookies - things which break down easily and will raise your sugar..

Make sure you put fat with your carbs as it also slows down the absorption.

Use natural fats as much as possible.  Ie butter or cream in your potatoes, cream in your coffee.   Do not use low fat foods.  Regular fat cheese and yogurt, etc.  Eat the fat from your meats.

You could also see if your doctor can refer you to a dietician to give you more advice.
