The main need for a diabetic diet is to reduce carbs. Since you have to replace carbs with something, protein and good fat in addition to plenty of fresh vegies is the natural choice. Some people find it does affect their blood sugar if they eat huge servings of protein, but for most of us protein doesn't affect blood sugar. If you want to know how any food affects your blood sugar, test two hours after eating. We are all different so other than reducing carbs nobody can give you an absolute rule of what to eat.
