Any abnormal BG levels would increase risk of heart defect or even miscarriage/stillbirth. After about 27 weeks, the hormone chance will make insulin resistance much worse. And if not well controlled, the baby will grow too big, which increases the risks for delivery complications. If baby is measuring too big and have to come out early, the baby will need NICU stay due to immature lungs.
