According to the International Diabetes Federation, your A1c of 6.2 would fit you into a pre diabetes diagnosis, You should work out a meal plan with a dietician and have a watch over your carbohydrate intake along with routine exercise, metformin is relatively safe and should bring down your A1c along with a good lipid profile and no hypoglycaemia.
Do have a routine checkup of fasting blood glucose , eye and urine test done.

I had similar told me I took metforrmin for a few days and
came out in a rash so it was stopped since then 5 years ago I have managed the blood sugars with diet ..and eating well..I still get up and downs with sugar levels but I deal with it ..not saying it maybe good for you but it sure wroks for me and no side effects

A1c of 6.2 is well above the typical cut of 5.7 to be considered diabetic.
I agree with second Dr. who says you are diabetic already and need to treat yourself (and control your diet and blood sugars etc., as such).
