Do I have diabetes?

Diabetes run-in my family. And I always seemed to be drinking fizzy drinks mostly but usually any drinks as I get thirsty a lot almost everyone half an hour.. Also even if I have a good 8 hours sleep I always need more in the after noons as I can't stay awake and need to sleep for an hour or 2. Also struggle with my weight could this be diabetes?

The symptoms are those of diabetes, but they could also be symptoms of other things.  If the excessive thirst doesn't seem to be related to exercise or warm weather, I would definitely ask a doctor to have your blood sugar checked.

I started noticing a somewhat mild increase in thirst in August and early September.  At first I dismissed it because temperatures here had been warmer than usual, but by the first of October I was extremely suspicious of diabetes, so asked for a test.  The result was a 289!  That's nearly three times the level it should be for a fasting test.  I'll be seeing the doctor for follow-up, but know that I'm diabetic at that level.  

I suggest that if you feel suspicious about it, you check it out.  Going very long with high blood sugar levels can do damage to other parts of the body, as well.
