I have type 2 diabetic retinopathy which my opthamologist says is quite advanced.  He thinks I have had diabetes for quite some time which I was unaware of.  He is a local retina specialist who I feel has not treated me very aggressivly up to now.  He gave me an injection for swelling in my right eye and has done lazer surgery on my left eye.  These treatments have been over a period of four months.  The lazer treatment in my left eye seems to have slowed down the disease progression, but now vision in my right eye has become poor at best.  Initally, my right eye was the eye giving me the most problems.  I can't understand why he has let my right eye vision  progress to this point without more aggressive intervention.  I feel at this point vitrectomy is my only hope, but I want to find a retina specialist who has a good reputation in vitrectomy surgery.  Can you recommend a surgeon within a few hours drive of the southern Indiana area?  If not, I would be willing to travel elsewhere.  If I don't pursue this, I feel within a short time I  will be sightless.  Thank you for any help you can give me!
