NEW RESULT

I have been hearing news stories about a new study that was stopped because type II diabetics who were keeping their blood sugar low or normal were dying off from heart disease at an increased rate.  Precious little information was given.  What sugar levels are they talking about?  More important does this correlate with A1C test levels?

Hi,
The study you mentioned did stop early(at about 4 years in) when they discovered more deaths in the intensive group than the less intense group. I think the more intense group had a target a1C of less than 6% which means pretty much normal levels even compared to the non-diabetic population. There are no definite reasons for this surprising finding yet, but we are all keeping updated to see what develops.
Hope this helps,
Take care
