mom w diabetes

my 65 year old mom went to the eye dr today for a routine check up. her vision has not changed, but he wants her to go to the retinal specialist . he said there is no retinal detachment, but maybe a tear? she sees no floaters or flashes. are diabetes and retinal tears linked?????

Diabetes , especially poorly controlled diabetes, is linked to various types of retinal disease, although I am not sure about actual retinal tears. You may want to try to ophthalmology forum--they will definitely know the answer.
