thyroid medicine

I keep my blood sugar in control.  Recently I was told I have low thyroid and I am taking synthoid.   Is this common in diabetics?  If so when and why?

Hi,
Thyroid disease is quite common, especially in women.  It is even more common in people with Type 1 Diabetes, but not necessarily increased in those with Type 2.  So if you have Type 1, then the chances of your developing thyroid disease were quite high. If you have Type 2, your chances were just as if you did not have diabetes at all. Hope this answers your question. Take care.
