Thanks for using the forum.
There is no set scale that works for everyone. There are different types of insulin (long acting/short acting) and everyone responds differently. I would recommend working with your doctor to find what works best for you.
You could try to keep a journal. Record you blood glucose, your activity level, and your diet. Using this you will begin to see patterns of what makes your sugar rise and fall. This can help you and your doctor set a scale tailored to you.
Good luck. I hope this helps.

The relationship is between carbs and insulin, and again the ratio depends on the person, everyone has a different ratio.
As far as the 70/30 goes I cant emphasize enough, that that type of insulin is VERY difficult to manage consistent BG with.
Every time you take a shot you get 70% NPH AND 30% R insulin
Ask about going on a Basal/Bolus insulin regeam, much easier to control BG.
Coming from someone who has been managing diabetes for 13 years, all the research and doctor visits I had I learned that there is no direct relationship. The same is true as mentioned by others that insulin dosage differs from one person to the other. If ur not managing your diet well, u can have high blood glucose levels.
Thank you for responding. I am taking Novalin 70/30 and I guess the better question would have been is their a relationship between Calorie and unit of insulin?
thank you for your responce I started to think my title could have been diffrent
unfortunetly I am dealing with a VA Dr and they have not been to helpful. I did just start to see an outside Dr. and hope he can pick up the slack I have a blood test in the morning and will be seeing him soon Thanks
There is no formula for every one is different in amount of insulin they need.
I cant say what will work for you. what I did WITH an MDs help was start at XX IU at night and increased it by 2 every other day until my morning BG was good.
I did not say how much i started with, see an MD for that.
you did not say what insulin your using (they do very both in strengths and how fast they work) nor did you say what your BG is in the AM.
