Abdo Pain

Long story, will give brief background. I am 46 years old. I had 2 laminectomies L4/5 in '94 & '98. Rear-end car crash in August '02 resulting in a Annular Tear to nerve sheath surrounding nerves and Spinal Cord, Diagnosis 'spinal stenosis' due to the crash. I was slim, fit and healthy Driving 40ton Artic trucks until car crash. My GP prescribed:~ OXYCODONE 60mg x 2 per day, CYCLIZINE 100mg x 2 per day. Due to decreased mobility I rapidly gained weight. After about a year I started suffering from Acid Reflux which was diagnosed at an outpatient clinic. No tests were performed to confirm this as they wanted to wait until any back treatment was done. 18mths later still no investigations for the reflux because I am now deemed Obese but I now take:~ Domperidone 10mg x 3 per day 15mins before meals, ESOMEPRAZOLE 40mg x 1 per day. I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes in Oct '05, I am diet only. I now also take PERINDOPRIL 8mg x 1 for raised B/P and because of almost constant Oral/Groin Candida 50mg FLUCONAZOLE x 1 for 28 days currently on day 16. Xmas '05 evening approx 3/4 hrs after eating heavy rich Xmas dinner I started to suffer from pain around my Tummy-button which came in waves, approx 2/3 mins between pains and lasting 12/15 secs, I was extremely nauseas. I was admitted to Hospital in the early hrs of Boxing Day morning. Blood and Urine Tests showed Blood & protein in my Urine and raised white blood cell count with a few others raised but not sure which. An Ultrasound of my abdomen showed nothing abnormal so treated for Kidney infection. I was given an antibiotic. 7th Feb 06 I  had the same pain start with Nausea, I was violently Sick after about 1 hour. Was again admitted to hospital after violent vomiting in the ER. Blood and protein again showed up in my urine and 4 raised levels in my blood including white bloodcell count. I was again diagnosed with Kidney infection even though I didn't have any symptoms, I had a kidney infection many years ago and remember what that pain felt like and it was nothing like the pain I was experiencing. Another Ultra sound of my abdomen, Urinary system and pelvic organs again showed nothing abnormal. I was started on CIPROFLAXACIN IV for three days then sent home with 500mg of the same drug to take for 7 days, now on day 7. Yesterday 14/2/06 I ate some fatty crisps, after 15mins I started to feel extreme nausea and vomited 10 mins later. After about 20 mins I felt OK again. I am now keeping a Food Diary to see if or what makes me sick or indeed causes another episode of extreme abdo pain as described above.
The pain when I get it is very bad and as I described above in kind of comes like contractions around and under my Tummy Button, at its peak I can feel it almost to my spine.
I have been searching the 'Web' for anything to help me. I am hoping that someone might be able to help me. I sometimes feel because I am Obese due to being Disabled they are reluctant to investigate further. Please Help Me!!

You have had a pretty comprehensive evaluation in the hospital.  The multiple infectious certainly can lead to some of the symptoms you are describing.  The ultrasound would make liver and gallbladder diseases less likely.

If the nausea is continuous, you can consider an upper GI series or upper endoscopy to further evaluate the upper GI tract.  A gastric emptying scan is a specialized test that can evaluate for gastroparesis.  This can be considered if the initial testing is non-revealing.

If the pain is lower down (i.e. around the umbilical area), a colonoscopy or CT scan can be considered to further evaluate the lower GI tract.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Also wanted to add that I have been having tests for an increased Heart Rate on any exertion such as walking, normal resting rate is approx 70/80beats bpm, with walking or exertion such as bathing it goes up to anything between 100/120 bpm. I get very hot and then walk around in the cold winter months with just a T-shirt on as to go in the shops with my coat on I find the heat in the shops unbearable. I had a 24hr ECG monitor and waiting for results on 22/2/06. Walking is painful for me because of my back injury. Another annoying symptom is I sometimes get very itchy, mainly on my back, groin and thighs. I am bathing and washing using E45 bath oil and body wash because using normal bath products made my thrush worse.

Hi, for your bath.. try lavender oil. Lavender is very good and soothing for the senses and body. As far as your nausea go, you may have a gallbladder going bad. I would try to take in more veggies and fruits. A juice machine would work wonders for your conditions. Try a juicing regimin daily. I would even consider getting off some medications ( sometimes they can be the culprit to symptoms) and try working from the ground up. You want to rule out allergies... Good Luck
