Anal Bleeding

I am a 26 year old male with a clean bill of health.  I have read some of the other posts on this website but wanted to put my exact symptoms just to be certain.

For some time now I have sporadic anal itching.  What usually happens is that it will start itching either when I need to have a bowel movement or after I go to the bathroom.  I will then clean myself completely.  An hour or so passes and then itchiness will get progressively worse and I will go and wipe myself again to relieve the itchiness.  When I do this there is always stool on the tissue even though I had previously cleaned myself completely.  There is no mucus or discharge of any kind.
The itching is not untolerable but more of an annoyance.  I dont have any kind of abdominal pain, fever, fatigue, etc. The only sympton I notice is the itchiness. Soaking in a warm bath tends to help as well as the use of Tuck's medicated pads (witch hazel pads)

On one occasion a couple of months ago I had diahrrea and when I wiped, I noticed a very small amount of bright red blood on the toilet tissue.  I dismissed it because after going to the bathroom my anus was a lot more itchy than it had ever been.  I assumed it was because of the diahrrea and the blood came from the fact that in order to properely clean myself I had to wipe more than usual.

Well last night I had to strain to have bowel movement and felt nothing unusual.  But today I had a bowel movement which was looser than usual but the same sort of itching occured with this bowel movement as with the diahrrea.  When I cleaned myself I saw nothing unusual but after wiping all the stool away I decided to wipe one more time to make sure and I saw spots of bright red blood.  The blood seemed very light and thin.  I wiped myself a couple of other times and noticed that the blood was more prevelent on one side of the anus than on the other.  But there was not a lot of blood, none had dripped into the water and I only noticed it after wiping.  And even on the tissue it was very spotted.

I have only bled on these two occasions after irregular bowel movements and the itchiness comes and goes and is more of an annoyance than a serious problem. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to treat myself or do you feel that a doctor visit is neccessary.  Thanks for your help.

I have had this problem and drinking coffee adds to the itch for me. I only drink instant coffee because it doesn't bother me. Anytime I have ever taken advil it has caused the rectal bleeding. Also wheat products have caused this problem for me. The itching.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
The symptoms are most consistent with a hemorrhoid.  Other possibilites would include an infection, or an anal fissure.

However, anytime there is rectal bleeding, a physician evaluation should be done.  Tests, including an anoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, can be considered to make sure it isn't anything more serious than hemorrhoids.

If hemorrhoids are the case, then corticosteroid suppositories or creams can be considered to increase the healing rate.  If there is evidence of constipation, then stool softeners can be considered.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

sounds like a hemorroid to me.  Especially for the fact , you have had no other symptoms except external itching and a little blood.  Usually bright blood is from hemorroids.

One more time.  I went to the local pharmacy and picked up some Preparation H.  It seems to be working very well.  It is not irritated anymore. Was still curious on what I should do however, I was worried that it could be something more serious. Thanks.

Sorry to keep posting. I just want to give as much info as possible.  If it is a hemorrhoid which I think it is given the symptoms I think it is more towards the outside of the anus as opposed to an more internal area.  All discomfort is felt seemingly on the anus itself as oppsed to an internal itching sensation. Thanks again..again sorry for the multiple posts.

After about 30 minutes to an hour, I went and wiped myself to see if I was still bleeding.  I wiped a couple of times and saw no blood on the tissue. Thanks again

There was actually very little blood and there was none on my underwear.  After it happened I got some preparation H which worked very well.  Also, I have felt a very mild lump on my anus.
