Over the past several days I have noticed blood in my stool that is bright red in color. The stool is flat as it has been for many years (but no blood). It seems to burn or feel like the stool is passing over sandpaper when it exits. I also have several bowel movements in a day when this occurs. I had a colonoscopy several months ago with one polop removed but all test came back negative. Help!
Most physicians will investigate blood mixed with stool by performing a colonoscopyu to exclude polyps or tumors. Blood on the surface of the stool is usually attributable to a low rectal or anal cause. Although polyps can be the cause other considerations include rectal fissures and hemarrhoids. Fissures ,in particular can be difficult to diagnose
I am not a specialist of any type, but what it sounds like to me is a problem in your rectal area. I have been told that , when blood in the stool is a digestive (Ulcer) or liver problem, the stool will be black in color and have a tar like consistancy. If I were you, I would watch my fiber intake. It is not good to have to little or to much. If you have GERD (Reflux Disease), I would ask my Dr. for Prevacid or Prilosec.
Blood in your stool is a symptom of aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet) poisoning. I don't know where you are getting the aspartame, but it is in 6,000 products, not only diet sodas.
If the shoe fits, please go to www.dorway.com and http://aspartamekills.com for more info.
And, you don't have to believe me. Just read the labels of what you are ingesting (sugar-free mints, gum, vitamins? and indeed, the very medicine suggested to cure your condition such as chewable antacids.
EVERYTHING THAT YOU DESCRIBED IS HAPPENING TO ME. I HAVE HAD BLOOD IN MY STOOLS NOW FOR ALMOST TWO WEEKS. I HAVE HAD A BARIUM ENEMA, SIGMOIDOSCOPY, COLONOSCOPY, UPPER GI ENDOSCOPY, ALSO CT SCANS AND X-RAYS NOT TO FORGET TWO NEW TESTS CALLED A HIDA SCAN AND AN OCTROSCAN BOTH IN NUCLEAR MEDICINE. ALSO I HAVE HAD A SERIES OF URINALYSIS AND BLOOD WORKUPS. MY SYMPTOMS ARE ABDOMINAL PAIN WITH RECTAL PAIN AND BLEEDING. THEY HAVE FOUND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH ME. I HAVE A SLIGHT DIVERTICULA BUT THEY DO NOT BELEIVE THAT IT WOULD CAUSE MY TYPE OF PAIN. I FEEL AS THOUGH THEY ARE READY TO GIVE UP ON ME. TWO YEARS AGO I HAD A SURGERY CALLED A LAP NISSEN FUNDOPLICATION, THIS IS WHERE THEY TIE YOU ESOPHAGAS AROUND THE STOMACH TO PREVENT ACID REFLUX. I ALSO HAD SURGERY TO CORRECT DELAYED STOMACH EMPTYING. I HAVE ALSO HAD TWO PRIOR HEMORROIDECTOMY SURGICAL PROCEDURES DOWN. BUT I SEEM TO HAVE EVERYONE STOMPED ON THIS LATEST DEVELOPMENT. I ALSO HAVE MANY DIZZY SPELLS THROUGHOUT THE DAY, SOME THAT ACTUALLY CAUSE THE ROOM TO SPIN AROUND ME GIVING ME BUTTERFLYS IN MY STOMACH. I NEED SOME SERIOUS ADVICE ON WHAT MY NEXT MOVE SHOULD BE MYSELF. I WILL CONTINUE TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE FOR MY CONDITION AND UPDATE YOU AS I GO, WHO KNOWS I MAY RUN INTO SOMEONE WHO COULD HELP US BOTH. GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU.
I am not a doctor but I do have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I also had blood in my stool. It depends on if the blood is bright red or dark red. Bright red blood might just be hemmhorids. Dark red blood indicates something else. If nothing else is wrong with with you after tests have been done, then start taking metamucil once a day, but don't stop taking it, because it takes about a month or two to regulate your system. I have my IBS under control for the most part now. Also, stress is a MAJOR contributor to IBS and instesinal problems. But, DO go to your doctor to rule out possible serious illness. Good luck.
I've had an abdominal pain for about 3 months now but all the tests (Endoscopy, Abdominal ultrasound, HIDA Scan, CAT Scan, colonoscopy, and small-bowel series) all showed up normal. The HIDA Scan showed a 30% gallbladder ejection fraction. My Dr. says I have IBS but I do not diarrhea or constipation, just a mild abdominal pain. I also believe I have blood in my stool. Do you know if a stool that is darker (not black) in some parts indicates blood?
Also, I was told that IBS does not have blood in stools. Do you know if this is true?
I also have bright red blood in my stools occasionally, but I have Crohn's disease. If you haven't been diagnosed with an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (or even tested for one), then you definitely need to contact your doctor or arrange to see a gastroenterologist. While bright red blood is typically from hemorrhoids or fissures, it can also come from a lower GI bleed. Dark blood (black, tarry) usually comes from the stomach or duodenum....somewhere higher up in the digestive system, whereas maroon blood comes from the small intestine. Hope this helps!
How long should symtoms continue before going to the doctor? I am 45 and this morning had bright red blood in my stool for the first time. It seemed like a considerable amount. Not to be disgusting but, it swirled in the bowl and I could almost not tell what color my stool was. This amount of blood seems like it would be caused by a broken blood vessel some where. I have a mind to wait a day or so at least. Do you think this prudent?
It is Aug. 31st. and I am getting concerned. I am 44 yrs. old and most of my life I have suffered from constapation. However, since February I have suffered from loose, watery stools. And, from occasional blood in the stool to where I have blood in the stools just about everyday. I have tried preparation H to relieve the burning which can bring me to tears. However, it seems to have little effect. I can no longer eat certain things like apples, tuna or mayo which seem to totally irritate my whole digestive system till it feels like there is some kind of a storm going on inside of me. The blood is bright red, so I figured that I was dealing with hemeroids. I have never mentioned this problem to my doctor because I am embarrased to talk about it. I am so tired of dealing with this problem and I am at the point where I think that no matter how I feel that I should just bring it up to the doctor. Does anyone else have these symptoms. What should I do?
like everyone else I have blood in my stools, however I have left it for approx 3 weeks.I currently take alot of painkillers with codeine for a back injury and Im thinking it may just be a hemeroid from straining. I have had a colonoscopy and it revealed polops. Should i go back, just wondering.... I am only 25. Also the blood is bright red and I am constipated and it may be 5 days inbetween when i go.
Since February of 2007, I started to feel bloated. If before I could eat a complete 3 sets of meals, I'm now skipping my dinner for I always feel that fullness. That's always been the case until just two weeks ago, I noticed that my stools become narrow, about the size of a crayola and it's soft. On top of this, I have hiccups daily and bloated that sometimes I have difficulty in farting. Until now, I don't eat dinner because I will experience abdominal discomfort 30 minutes after meal that will last for about 3-5 hours. This is awful because this prevent me to have a goodnight sleep.
MY question is how will you know if there's really a blood in your still (xcept for obvious scenario that you see it flowing in the toilet bowl). I mean just this morning I had a narrow stools with some blood? (bright red) clot all around my feces? Are these blood? I thought if this is blood and once exposed to water or oxygen should turn it's appearance right?
i been having loose stools frm last 2 weeks and frm the last week i had seen blood coming outof my stools, which is bright red in color ,and since last night i been having problem sleeping too i have to use the toilet every half and hour and i will see some blood every time i use the toilet and little bit of loose stools comes out , and one more thing now my anus is started to burn when i try to do it. i been burbing a lot too and sometime it follows up with the fart! . i went to the doctor on last tuesday , she gave me 3 different prescription and i been takin those medicine on time , but i dont see any difference . its gettin worse i can tell , i am little worried boout this whole thing ......
Hi.. I'm 21...I've had blood in my stool for the past 2 years or so. I get it more during the school year when i'm stressed about exams. What's a colonosopy like? I'm scared to find out it more serious than just constipation. Do I see a regular doctor then get referred to a specialist? Please help... I know waiting is not the most responsible thing to do... but I'm really scared it more than just that.
Usually the blood is a bright red and it's at the end of the stool. When I wipe...I see blood on the paper. Do I just need more fiber?
Go see your primary physician, and get a referral to see a gastroenterologist...NOW!!!! This could be anything from hemorhoids to wipiing too hard, to polyps in the colon. Be assured, that a colonoscopy is a breeze. It is a very reliable way to diagnose the source of your problem. (In other words, a colonoscopy should be the only procedure you need to determine the cause).
**Mangda, it is very possible, to miss a polyp during a colonscopy (but it takes usually about 5 years for polyps to "re-develop")
**Ventair, what kind of abdominal discomfort, cramp, burn, gas, and ?
I'm with you. I am also 21 and just have had a considerable amount of blood in my stool for the past 3 days. I'm a little freaked out. Nothing hurts or feels torn though. I was planning to wait it out, but from what I'm reading thats not a good idea. What would cause this to happen all the sudden?
I just had a bowel movement today - no pain, no cramping ,but when I wiped I noticed quite a bit of blood (mucusy clump similar to what I get at times during menstuation). I did a double take because it took me by surprise. When I looked in the toliet bowl, I couldn't see the stood as there was blood floating everywhere. When I wiped again, there was no blood. I've urinated since then with no trace of blood. My feet have been bloated for a few days now and I tood diurex (for the first time) this weekend to see if that would help. I didn't take more than the recommended 8 per 24 hours, but I also took some ibuprofen a few times as I had headaches. This is the first time this has happened. I'm 30/f. Any ideas?
