Chest pain and stomach spasms????

Hi - looking for someone with similar symptoms who may be able to help me. For approx 2 years I have been experiencing chest pains. These pains are severe, 99% of the time only on the left side, they radiate under my armpit and around the breast area. Also tightening next to the breastbone. (trip to er ruled out heart when this first occured) 1st Doctor said stress, 2nd Dr. said reflux from hiatel hernia, I was prescribed protonix and metoclopromide for 1 year with no relief. 3rd Dr sent me in for an endoscopy. This Dr. said he believed stomach spasms are the cause of the pains in my chest. For the past 6 months I have been taking Dicylomine to suppress the spasms. Have some chest pain, but not as severe. What is the cause of these spasms?? no one seems to be able to answer me, including the Dr. His answer is to stay on the medication thru the end of the year and "see what happens then". If anyone has had something similar happen, I would love any input. Thanks!!

I am not sure if this is the same kind of pain but i will share with you myexperiences.  I have had severe pains located directly below my sternum in the center.  It gets so bad it feels like chest pains.  Veryhot and extreme spams that last for 9-11 hours.  I get these attacks every couple months and have been dealing with this for 7 years.  I am 23 and a female.  Doc. have said it is stress,  they have said it is GERD, they think now my esphogus spasms and they don't know why.  I am no acephix which keeps down the heartburn...whoopee!  When I have these attacks they have me take nitroglyecerien.  This takes the pain from a 10 to a 5.  It is a smooth muscle relaxer as well as heart medicine.  If the pain continues then I take a pain killer so i can get through it.  Still no real answers but the nitro does help.

I was reciently told that I have a lot of duadual??irritation with spasms.  I have been trying for a year now to find out why I am in so much pain.  This was found with a GI with lower follow through.  I was told prior to having this test that it felt like I had multiple hernia's.  But, they are leaving that one alone.  I don't have any answers.  But, I sure do impathyse with you.  This pain is sometime unbelievably powerful.

Best of luck to you.  If you do find out something, please post so we can learn with you.  Thanks!

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I too have been trying to figure out what in the world started all of this pain. Sometimes I feel hopeless with the Doctor's lack of help. Just doesn't seem too important to them to continue investigating the cause. I however will keep trying to figure it out. I definately will share anything I learn, hopefully to help others out.

Hi - thanks for your response, yes I did have a sonogram to check out my gallbladder when these pains first occured. They didn't see anything irregular.

Have they ruled out gallstones?  Sometimes gallbladder attacks can cause upper abdominal spasms. Hope you get to the bottom of your trouble soon.
