Can a person live without a colon

yup, I've been living without one.  the main purpose of the colon is to reabsorb fluid.  depending on the reason for removal, there are surgical procedures that do not result in the need to use an external pouch.

Yes a person can live without a colon.  Although, you do know you will have to live with a colostomy.  I have a friend who had a colostomy 20 years ago and she is doing fine.  You will have to watch closely what you eat.  There are folks who have had colostomies who have support groups.  I am sure your doctor will advise you where these meetings take place.  If you are scheduled for this procedure, you may want to contact the hospital and ask them if there are any support meeting that take place there.  I hope this information is of help to you.  Let us know how you are doing.  Good Luck!
