Constant clearing of phlem

I've been constantly clearing my throat for the past 3 months on and off because of white phlem. It also feels like something is at the back of my throat. I have had an endoscopy, the ENT doctor put a probe down my nose into my throat and it shows nothing. My throat doesn't feel swollen although I do have pain intermittantly. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Some SINUS TIPS:

SOME  SINUS SURVIVAL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: SINUS SURVIVAL, by Dr. Robert Ivker, D.O.  See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com

PLEASE READ THE BOOK SINUS SURVIVAL, by Dr. Ivker!, for MORE GOOD IDEAS!!!

(1) NASAL IRRIGATIONS: THIS IS DONE WITHOUT ANY CHOKING, AND WITHOUT SNIFFING THE LIQUID UP THE NOSE! My husband does these once a day. I do them 2x a day. When I first did them, I needed to do them 4x/day. We try to avoid doing them within 1 hour of bedtime (or lying down), because some of the irrigation fluid drains out later on, and we prefer to be awake and not lying down (when possible), to gently blow the residual warm salt-water out of each nostril. Keep tissues (unscented) handy.

  (a) First, we each bought a NETI-POT, an 8 ounce little ceramic teapot without a cover, from a health food store. Some people who do Yoga use neti-pots (hence the East-Indian sound of NETI-POT). This avoids potential latex allergy from rubber bulb syringes! Also, this is a gentle gravity method, with no dangerous high water pressure. And no electricity is needed!

  (b) We put about a half teaspoon (1/2 teaspoon) of plain (non-iodized) salt (sodium chloride, NaCl, avoiding additives) into the neti-pot. We like PLAIN, ADDITIVE-FREE, NON-IODIZED sea-salt (from health food store).

( c) We then add a little hot water and stir, to dissolve the salt. We use well water (no chlorine, no fluoride). Distilled water would be OK, but we do not drink distilled water, which can leach minerals (like calcium) out of the bones, contributing to osteoporosis.

  (d)  Then we add a little cold water, and stir, to make the salt water warm, not hot. (I experimented, until I found the most comfortable degree of warm temperature

Some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS (without acid blockers):

GER=Gastro-Esophageal Reflux. (Gastro=stomach. Esophagus=food tube.)

LPR= Laryngeal-Pharyngeal Reflux. (Larynx=voice box, containing the 2 vocal cords. Pharynx=throat, above the larynx. The larynx is above the trachea/windpipe.)

Reflux=acidic or alkaline stomach material that backs up into the esophagus (food tube), causing any of these problems: VCD/Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Laryngospasm attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc.

SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. Murray, N.D. See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com   and, also see GER/LPR info on page 5, and on LINKS page.

PLEASE READ THIS GREAT BOOK. It may possibly be bought on-line, from Michael T. Murray

Dear Abbey,

I'm so glad you will read (and hopefully try, if OK for you) all these "tips", and I'm glad you will read the VCD website, too.

See if you can find a specialist doctor, whose specialty is ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH, to help you find SAFE ways to get rid of the toxic mold in your home!

If all else fails, you may have to move out of that home. Toxic mold can cause all kinds of serious health problems. The fact that BOTH you and your husband have symptoms, shows how strongly the toxic mold is badly affecting you both. There may also be additional causes of your "indoor air pollution". See p. 5 of the VCD website, and read "The Healthy House" by John Bower. Great book! Good luck to you!

Sincerely, Concerned lady

Thank you soooo much for all the information you provided me. I'll definitely read it and look into the info you posted. I was diagnosed with h. pylori back in April and am not sure if I still have it or not. Also, we found black mold in our house and are having an environmental cleaning company coming out for an inspection.

I have had 2 ENT specialists look at me but I will be going to a new gastro doctor the 9th of July. My husband and I have been sick for 4 months with similar symptoms although my throat has also been bothering me and his hasn't.

Thank you again. If you think of anything else that may be relevent please e-mail me at ***@****

Sincerely,
Abbey

Here are a few ideas that may help:

1) See a different (better) ENT/ear, nose & throat doc, for a new opinion.
2) See a good GI (gastro-intestinal doc).
3) See a good Allergist doc who is aware of environmental irritants & toxins.
4) Read some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS that I'll post for you here, as another message.
5) Read some SINUS TIPS that I'll also post here, as another message.
6) Look through my website called "Can't Breathe? Suspect Vocal Cord Dysfunction!", with home page at http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com  Especially, read pages 3,4,5.

Have you taken any antibiotics that could have resulted in a yeast infection? (See Gastric Reflux tips below).

Are you exposed to "indoor air pollution"? (See VCD website, page 5)

Did you have a viral infection? (Viral infections can sometimes lead to gastric reflux, and neck pain) (See last reference note on page 9 of VCD website).

Keep us posted on what you find out you have! Good luck to you.

Sincerely, Concerned lady
