Diarrhea but no blood in stool

I have had a lot diarhhea lately.  No blood in stool.  Quite a bit of gas.  Sometimes the gas seems to cause pressure near rectum and sometimes it emanates to my lower back.  My problems started in the upper GI about six months ago.  Went on Prevacid which seemed to help with that.  Now the diarrhea is the problem.  I'm a little worried.  I've had IBS in the past but this is worse.  What I want to know is if I had colon cancer wouldn't there be blood in the stool?  I also have a lot of undigested food in the stool, expecially vegetables.  I'm 45 years old and beginning to experience symptoms of menopause.  Is it common to develop colitis at this age?  Also, I have a history of diverticulitis in my family.  Can diarrhea be a symptom of that?

Just wondering what happened with your colonoscopy.  I hope it went well.

You sound just like I did back a year ago this May.  I had constant diarrhea.  I used all the over the counter medicines i could think of.  I went to doctors and was told that I had IBS.  The diarrhea didn't stop.  I was dehydrating and getting very weak.  I lost weight too.  I went to GI docotr and had coloscopy done.  I was diagnosed cancer.  It is not all that bad.  I was operated on and had a bag temporally.  I am 1005 better now and that has been since November.  I do have to have further treatments, chemo and radiation but that is alright too.  I have a possitive outlook and so can you.  Colon cancer is curable in 95% of cases.  Don't let this go.  The herbs and other stuff help for awhile but it comes back twofold.

I have been off the Prevacid for almost a week and am still having diarhhea.  If it is the Prevacid causing this, wouldn't it be better by now?

Thanks for your comment.  I'm hoping that getting off this Prevacid will eventually alleviate the diarrhea.  I don't seem to be having any upper GI problems since I went off the Prevacid.  I did get information from Concerned Lady about DGL and got some from the health food store.

Thanks for your comments.  I'm consulting Dr. soon.  Have been off Prevacid for a week.  Hope things get better for me.  Let me know how things go for you.  Immodium works for me, but after I go off it the diarrhea returns.

I can't remember exactly how long, possibly a couple weeks, but then I started another PPI which caused the opposite problem and had to stop it.  All together, I have tried all four, and am now weaning myself from the last one, which is Nexium, thanks to the help of Concerned Lady on this forum.  Also, I have had episodes of diarrhea since then along with some other symptoms so I think that my entire gastrointestinal tract is out of whack.  I'm hoping that getting off the PPI's and using some natural remedies will help.  Hope you're feeling better by now!

Are you still taking the Prevacid?  I had that problem with it, and it didn't show up until I'd been on it awhile.  Hope you get it resolved.

Hello again.  If you want some information about Fatty infiltration of the liver, read the posts under Q: NASH diagnosis in my brother. GKOLA7 5/19/2002.  I have put a website to check for information and the answer from "imkindly" has two good websites to check as well.  They all have good information about Fatty Liver and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis.
