Hi Abbey,

My husband and I like the Canadian brand: "Natural Factors" ("double strength") acidophilus/bifidum/rhamnosis. This particular formula does contain a little powdered goat milk. I use a "Lactaid" (lactase enzyme) pill each time I take the "probiotics", since I'm lactose (milk-sugar) intolerant.

The Natural Factors company does make some milk-free preparations, too, if you need to completely avoid milk.

I take these on an empty stomach, and then chew a couple of (Thayers brand) Slippery Elm Lozenges to prevent any possible stomach irritation.

There are some good brands, and some not so good ones. This one does appear to help us.

I take almost twice what the bottle recommends, but I only do this (taking more than what the bottle recommends for "probiotics".

Too little of them will be ineffective, and too much (what is "too much" varies from person to person) can cause loose stools.

I hope you find the right brand and dosage for YOUR situation.

We keep the probiotics refrigerated, but in a part of the refrigerator far from the freezer.

I began Probiotics acidophilus three days ago. It has helped me. I understand that Natron's "Healthy Trinity" is a fine choice as well.

Here's a search that is loaded with a lot of good reading. Try reading the second one first, titled. "About". Also, this is a very good site to browse. It's loaded with lots of great info as well on everything.
