Elevated Enzymes and Anitbiotics

Does anyone know if there is a correlation between antibiotic use and AST/ALT levels? I had a root canal and went through three rounds of Amoxicillin, novocaine, etc. I was a drinker but when my labs came back and my AST was almost 800 everyone was shocked. Anyone know whether or not it could have been the drugs or the infecctions could have affected them? I have totally quit drinking but still don't feel all that great and still have more dental work to have done. I don't know if I should risk the antibiotics or not. THANKS!!! :o)

Yes they did an ultrasound and found no stones, rolling mossy or otherwise. I am not on birthcontrol have been taking very good care of myself, resting a lot, eating well, and now I feel just plain horrible. I'm just very afraid of taking another round of antibiotics, not to mention novocaine or pain meds. I'll have to do it without them I suppose, but I know I'll need the antibiotics. Thanks guys for your help in this matter, I think I'm just a little frightened.

Hello, my liver enzymes are 350, they were much higher when I was on birth control.  Have they done and ultrasound to see if possibly you have gallstones?

Hello again!  I was looking at my tons of stuff on ALT and antibiotics do raise your enzymes.  Once you are off of them your levels should start lowering again.  Cooked carrots with a little fat or beet root are very good for the liver.

You need the antibiotics to clear out that infection.  My doctor says my enzymes may be elevated due to my body fighting off something somewhere and I do have an infection in a root canal that is going to be treated soon.  The infection is also causing my lymph glands in my neck to swell which also elevates your enzymes.  In the mean time don't take anything unnessecary like vitamins or especially Tylenol type products with acetaminophen.  Your liver needs a rest from all substances including any alcohol.  God bless!!:)
