Freckles, swelling feet and legs: can it be related to a possible liver problem?

I have brown spots on my feet and ankles that look like freckles. They have been there now for some years with no itching or relation to fungus whatsoever. My primary Dr said they might be attributed to low blood flow in my feet. That the freckles may in fact be broken or saturated blood vessels. She said this is somewhat common in people who are overweight and or have blood flow problems in the extremities. This has been readily ignored from that point on.

While at home working I noticed my legs and feet had swollen to unnatural proportions, to the point that I could not get my shoes on. I believe now that I may have had this problem for months to maybe even a year, but because I had my shoes on I did not notice the swelling in my legs. I have noticed for some time that my legs just above my shoes looked swollen, but thought nothing of it.

I went in to have this checked and they at this point did the basic metabolism checks, wherein they discovered the liver problem. My specialist says that he does not believe that there is a connection between the two, and that the swelling is most likely from some blockage in my legs or hips. My Dr suggested that this was possibly related to a liver problem.  I am now confused somewhat.

I have had one injury to my hips when I was 6 or 7 years old.  I believe I may have broke my tailbone at that time, but was forced to endure no treatment of it.  This is the only thing besides my weight that may be related to any kind of obstruction in my hips or legs.  Can this all be related?  Should I be asking more questions?  Thanks again.

Your doctor said that the freckles are not related to your liver problem. She said that the freckles are caused by blockages in your leg. But, she says the blockages in your legs are caused by the liver problem. I can see why you would be confused. Technically, the liver problem is not responsible for the freckles, but is responsible for the blockages which are causing the freckles. So the liver problem is indirectly causing the freckles. Just technicalities.

No, my primary care physician says that it may be related to the liver problem.  The specialist who she sent me to says that it does not have any relation to the liver problem.
