Gallbladder

Hi,

Could someone tell me the symptoms of gallbladder trouble, and also what happens if your gallbladder quits working what are the signs.  The reason I'm asking is because since Sept.2001 I have had a dull pain on and off under my right rib cage it usually hurts right under my right breast and a little over to the middle of my breast bone.  I have had two gallbladder ultrasounds, pelvic ultrasound, blood work,urine,x-ray of appendix, all came back neg.  But all day yesterday the pain was there I also got up in the middle of the night sick to my stomach and I keep having alot of trapped gas to where I have to strain to get it out (sorry so graphic).  The other problem is that I live in Texas but I am currently working in the Virgin Islands with my husband and I have been to several doctors in the VI but nothing, also we went home in Dec.and I went to my doctor there, she seems to think that it is my gallbladder and was sending me to have a Hida scan I was unable to have this procedure done before I left to come back to the VI.  So if anyone can give me any advise on what to do or what this could be,it would be greatly appreciated.  Also I am only 30 years old.
Also quit smoking before this problem started.  And one more thing I have been getting a full feeling all of the time before and after I eat.
Thank You,

I had my gallbladder removed in Aug. of this year.  I had the same symptoms that you are listing here.  With my feeling of fullness, I would experience pressure under my right rib area. I ended up in the E.R., and they did an ultrasound... it ruled out any stones or sludge; so they sent me to have a H.I.D.A. scan done. This is a test that they do to check the "function" of your gall bladder. Come to find out, mine had lost the ability to contract, so after a meal, when my gall bladder would fill up, it was unable to empty by contracting... it had to slowly leak the bile out, and the pain would subside.  You need to have one of these test run, you can have gall bladder problems without having stones or sludge!!!!

I am going thru the same thing. I am ALWAYS naseaus. Had sonogram and only thing that showed was sludge. Just has sonogram to rule out ovarian cancer and any problems with ovaries. Blood tests are negative for pancriatis and gall bladder disease. It is quite frustrating because we are not crazy. I just has upper GI and will see gastro specialist on 3/7. I am sure it is gall bladder and am also down to eating mostly protien bars because I prefer to not get sick and eating the bars is about the only thing I can tolerate without side affects.

Pain is dull to sharp but not severe. I did have severe pain last year and past out from it. But it was thought to have been a kidney stone. Looking back and putting it all together, it most likely was a gall stone.

You must have the tests to rule out anything else, and then after all the tests, they will remove the gall bladder.  This is where I am right now.  I just want all the tests to be done so they can remove this.  I feel so nauseaus and sick.

Good luck.

I had my gallbladder removed many years ago after the birth of my son. With a severe gallbladder attack the pain is very intense and is on the right side under and near the ribs generating to the middle. I don't recall if I had a full feeling, but I do know that eating affected it. Eventually I was living on Carnation Inst. Break. drink before the surgery. Mine was caused by gallstones. I would ask to be retested or see a different dr. I know when I was having attacks during my 3rd trimester, the dr. kept saying the baby was pushing on my diaphram causing the pain and difficulty. It wasn't until when my son was 6 weeks old and I couldn't function at all that in the middle of the night the dr. said maybe it is gallbladder. Even if it turns out to not be gallbladder, the dr. should try to rule out other possibilities. Hope this helps.

I would venture to say that your problem is a hiatal hernia and not your liver.  But I'm no doctor.  Several years ago I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia only after I went through all the tests to check my heart.  When the attacks are bad with a hiatal hernia, you will feel like you are having a heart attack.  Hope this information helps.  Please keep us posted.  Have a GREAT day!

I have been sorta having the same problems. about 2 years ago i was having chest pains, did all kinds of tests and it ended up being a 10 day stay in the hospital with pneumonia. Now this last 2 weeks it is starting again. Deep chest pains, pains between my shoulder blades, constant dull pain. Sharp at times. Went to the doc today she says i am not having a heart attack, she is sending me for a xray tomorrow and a ultrasound. she thinks it is the liver. most all of you describe the pain being under your right rib cage, mine is near my heart and in the middle. Any clues?

i have been having stomach trouble for a couple of years and finally decided to go to the dr two weeks ago after a severe 3 day attack. my stomach hurt so severely that i could hardly touch the outside. i felt like gas was trapped in my tummy and it hurt mainly on the right side but sorta seemed all over at times. i went to the dr and he gave me nulev then sent me for an upper gi xray series monday and wednesday i had the upper gi scope. the gi wanted me to come back next thursday for lower gi and the week after for a gallbladder u/s.  the gp called today and i'm major anemic and said the resluts from monday show a small hiatal hernia. this doesn't explain the severe pain. he said to eat early light meals for supper and stay thin. hello-i don't think this is my problem. any thoughts on gallbladder? two of my three aunts have had the same thing. help with ideas please
