How do you handle the mucus problem? I can't "hold" it in, it comes out at random moments just when walking or anything! Am I the only one who can't hold it in? I just can't bear wearing pads all the time HELP!
hi
try not to worry too much. i have internal hemmorhoids, and i have the EXACT same mucus coming out. I told my gastroenterologist, and he said that mucus is not unusual, and that it usually comes without any serious reason. If you have those big stools alternating with diarreah, you may also have irritable bowel syndrom. Its soooooooo common, and hundreds of people have it and haven't been diagnosed. Its really only diagnosed when all sorts of tests (such as colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, etc) have been done and all results are normal, but symptoms persist. 50% of people with ibs experience mucus in their stool. relax!!!!!!!! its probably the roids! Ask your doc if you're still concerned. It will be worth the two week wait to put your mind at ease. I had to wait a couple months to see the doc who did my scope!! i know its nerve racking, but the relief at the end is so worth it. take care! katie
A related discussion,
Continus Mucus in stool was started.
Hi leigha,
I have hemorrhoids, too. And I used to travel a lot. Drinking a lot of plain water--up to 1.5 liter--at the same time really helps me. When I traveled to the U.S. and the time zone was different, i usually had no problem with my discharge in the morning before I left the hotel, because the water usually made it very soft and did not hurt my hemorrhoids.
The only problem would be that I would have to go to the man's room a lot after that. But you really need to drink a lot of water (1.5 liter). Go to the toilet when the pressure is already very strong.
Cheers,
ZA
Thank you both for your immediate comments. It definately helps to know that this is a common thing and that there are some natural ways to get rid of the problem. I will definately be going to the doctor when I get back, but that puts my mind at ease for my trip. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
A couple more thoughts: Chew food slowly & thoroughly to help improve digestion. Also, drink more water (if clean water) to help prevent constipation.
The ACIDOPHILUS/BIFIDUS has also helped people when they go abroad as tourists, eating a different type of diet. Take these "probiotics" with a large glass of clean water, in between meals.
Don't sit still for too long. Hemorrhoids are a form of varicose veins, and exercise (walking) can help prevent & treat hemorrhoids.
Don't lift heavy luggage. Lifting heavy items can cause or aggravate hemmorhoids. Use wheels on luggage, instead.
Thanks for your thanks! :-)

Consider taking some ACIDOPHILUS/BIFIDUS "probiotics" (capsules) with you on your trip! Get these from a health food store! Find some that don't need refrigeration! And don't let them get xray'd at the airport, if you're flying, cecause xrays may destroy these beneficial bacteria. Keep them cool.
Most antibiotics destroy the beneficial bacteria (probiotics) along with bad bacteria. Eating ACIDOPHILUS/BIFIDUS can re-populate the large intestine with these beneficial bacteria, which is one nice, easy method to fight hemmorhoids!
Eat veggies, fruits, brown rice (all have "roughage"/fiber), etc. as part of a healthy diet, to naturally cure hemorrhoids. Avoid overly spicy food temporarily. When you come back, look at books at a health food store for more ideas on curing hemorrhoids naturally.
Do visit your doc when you can, in case something else is going on, too.
