Hiatal Hernia

I had surgery the first of March, 2001 to repair a hiatal hernia..I spent three day in the hospital, three weeks out of work.. since that time I am experiencing frequent nausea.. I can not find what brings this on.. it just hits me.. sometimes putting me in my bed... I also have found I cannot vomit.. There are certain foods my body no longer tolerates ..Can anyone explain this? any idea if this gets any better? thanks

My doctor tested my liver enzymes...(sp) anyway they are a little low so he did the hep screen and we are waiting for the results of that... However he is having me come in for a test July 11th for GERD... Whatever that is ... thanks for the reponse!!

I would like to ask you if, your Hiatal Hernia caused you pain in the upper stomach, such pain like any sudden movement a sharp tear feeling in your upper stomach.  My pain comes and goes but mostly with a quick movement and trying to lift heavy objects.  Also some real burning feeling in the upper stomach.  Did you experience any of this before your Hiatal Hernia was found???

to answer your other question..I did experience a lot of burning in the stomach.. but I also had two ulcers that contributed to the this .... you may want to have your doctor order a 'scope'.. it's not bad and is very quick..

I experienced a lot of pain when lifting.. after eating.. and when lying down.. the pain was constant at times.. but not sharp and did not come on suddenly.. it was substernum and to the left of the sternum at times.. I had constant heartburn and indigestion.. my doc said I should have the surgery while I'm still young rather than staying on meds which would cease to work after a while.... I no longer experience the GERD .. but have to eat slowly .. I still get the burning sensation substernum...

Eat small frequent meals and avoid lying down after eating.
