Identify this mass ?

Hello...

A little embarrassed, but here it goes. 2 days ago I was washing myself near my anus and my finger came across a small bump. I went to my primary care whom identified the small mass as a " classic hemorrhoid ". I do not agree. The lump is painless , doesn't itch, and is skin colored. I recently had a skin cancer scare ( pathology report came back clean, thank god ) but am hyper sensitive now.

This is something I may have had for a long time, I really have to feel for it and if I bend certain ways it disappears. I have no blood in stool, I had bright red spotting last night and took a second picture.

I have looked at various sites trying to identify the mass and the best I could come up with is a chronic anal fissure, or skin tag. I have had a hemorrhoid, but it has been many years.

Any help would be appreciated. The picture shows the mass being held over a bit to one side, the tear in it is new and may be due to a over zealous exam by my primary care, she was not gentle.

BTW - I do have a specialist appointment with Gastroenterology, but its several weeks out.

Me :

Male, mid 30's, don't drink / do drugs, straight, no known health issues

If this question is being posted in the wrong forum, I apologize.

I have high resolution pictures but can't seem to post them in the expert forum ?

Hi!
First of all I am sorry for replying so late—not sure how I missed your post—but am really sorry!
The lump could be a skin tag or a chronic fissure or a hemorrhoid. Often it is difficult to differentiate one from another. Hemorrhoids come in various sizes and shapes, have different colors and shapes and can be confused with skin tags. Not all hemorrhoids bleed or cause pain or itching or constipation. Also, hemorrhoids can be present for years without causing any symptoms.

If anal cancer was ruled out recently, then please do not worry much about the lump. If you keep on testing it on a daily basis, it is likely to cause some scare and anxiety. Feel the lump once in a month or so and if it increases in size or starts itching or becomes painful or bleeds then consult a doctor before the GI appointment.

Meanwhile practice good personal hygiene. Eat healthy and incorporate fiber, fruits and green veggies in your diet. You can sit in a bath or tub of warm water.

Then your GI specialist may start treatment if required. Usually asymptomatic hemorrhoids or skin tags do not require any treatment. The symptomatic ones may be treated with hemorrhoidal creams. Surgery is done only in cases not responding to medical management.

Hope this helps reduce your anxiety until you can consult the specialist! Good Luck and take care!
