I also had my gall bladder removed in August 2001 and my whole life has been turned upside down. I'm in pain 24/7 Have developed chronic pancreatitis and believe me .. its no picnic. Had I known all this would have happened.. I would have suffered with the gall bladder problem, rather than having the sugery. God Bless

Hi everyone!

I had my gallbladder removed in 1998.  Since then I have had severe pain almost on a daily basis.  It usually happens in the early morning hours or when my stomach is empty.  Eating sometimes helps to relieve the pain but not always.  It feels as if I am having a spasm in the right abdominal area and all the way through to my back and right shoulder.  I have had all the "tests" including the ERCP which have all been normal.  My family doctor put me on Librax for spasms and this helps somewhat.  I am disgusted and running out of any hope that I may be normal again.  It affects my work as well as my home life.  If anyone has any answers or suggestions please let me know.
Thanks!

Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that I know where you are coming from.  I am a twenty-seven year old female and I had my Gallblader out when I was 13.  Since then I have suffered for years from constant bouts of diarehea, gas, bloating and immense pain.  It often feels as though I had not gottent he operation.  I have every test known to man and everything comes back negative.  After my utter disgust with doctors I began to do my own research and discovery process.  At first the process was difficult because the pain usually only struck in the middle of the night and the diarehea struck whenever it felt like it.  Then about 2 years ago the pattern changed.  I would get the pain within 20 mintues of eating and begin to vomit in order to get rid of the pain (I also suffered from a severe gallblader problem).  But, in all this I do not lose any weight.  So, I began to search the food pattern and like others I discovered I could not digest Wheat.  Pasta was the worst but as time has gone on I can no longer touch a piece of bread to my lips.  I have researched Celiac disease and I seem to fit every symptom of the disease.  You may want to check this out as well.  There  are blood test and biopsies that can be done but you must go through eating the aggravating food for testing.  Ask you doctor about the tests.  It might be the answer.

Also, this could be a symptom of the gallblader removal.  Since our bodies no longer have that organ to break down our foods it will cause problems come digestion time.  I have just begun taking Digestive enzymes and am amazed at the immediate progress I am feeling.  Normally I have to struggle to burp and since I began taking them I have been able to burp with ease.  For me, I know the pain I get in my stomach is a build up of gas from improper digestion and too much acid in my stomach.  But, these enzymes seem to be of help.  I can completely understand the aggravation and hurt of those who suffer from chronic stomach pain.  I have suffered almost my entire life with some problem and am anxious to find relief.  I am not just in search of getting rid of the pain but helping and curing the underlying issues.I find the best thing to do is to keep a journal, understand your body and its habits, and be persistent.  If Doctors will not provide the answers then you must.  I have been trying to pattern my symptoms for years and I am finally closing in on it.  Just make sure you don't try anything without medical advise first.

I know many chronic pain sufferers lose weight because of the pain but I was not one.  I actually ballon in my weight because of malabsorption of nutirents and enzymes.  People can suffer from the same problem but have many different symptoms.

I know this is very lengthy so I will stop now but I hope I have been a little help.  If any one has any questions please feel free to ask.  I have been there and done all that before so I may be able to help alleviate some fears or just lend an ear.

Thanks!  I know you have been a great help to me.  Glad to know I am not the only one.

I have been suffering with pain after gallbladder surgery since last November. It has been daily and most often occurs with an empty stomach. By eating something the pain goes away. Unlike everyone else I have gained weight, because I have been coping with the pain by eating. I too have had CT, 3 scopes, gastric emptying scan and blood work. I have been on 6 different meds for reflux. Nothing works seems the Drs 4 now all think its GERD. I really think it is biliary spasms , but no one is willing to rule it out. Interesting I changed my diet to see if I could lose any of the weight I'd gain this year. I have omitted bread and pastas from my diet. I have been pain free for a week now. Unusual because since November the pain has been daily. I have read that carbs turn to sugar in your system which causes the pancreas to produce insuline. If reducing the carbs stops the majority of this wouldn't that help reduce the biliary spasms?

I had the same problem, had mine out last August, had alot of problems every since, lost around 50 pounds, but to the right rib pain, I have it too, had test done to make sure I didn't have a stone in the duct, came up negative.  My problem as far as we know is muscle spasms, when I first came home from the surgery I noticed that I had knots all along my right ribs, I even let my family doctor checked them out, I would notice if I tried to pull at things or lift things I would have sharp pain in ribs, finally I got to hurting all the time there, doctor wanted me tested for stones in duct as I mentioned above, since that came back negative, I was already in theraphy for pain in lower pain from an old injury, the pain came back due to weight loss, so the doctor just added in prescription excercise to strenghting rib muscles and add heat and sonagram to that area too.  It has helped alot!   I guess I was damaged by scope, like they didnt' pump my stomach up enough.  I figure this will be like my lower back and never competely go away.  I just thought if it could happen to me, it could happen to others.  When you are in that bad pain in right ribs, check to see if you can feel like knots popped up, compare it to your left ribs.

Add me to the list.  I had my Gall Bladder removed in April 2001 and to this day continue to have pains in my right side where my Gall Bladder use to be.  I've had everything done EXCEPT for an ERCP and everything comes up negative, including blood work.  I know something is not right.  If anyone has any ideas on what is going on, please let me know as well.

what kind of pain are you still having?  Is it on the right side where the gall bladder was or is it near the incision sites? I am having pain also and can't seem to find anyone who can identify.
