Is it or not???

It was 6 weeks ago this Thursday when I got a severe attack of nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, horrible upper pain underneath my right rib. My stools were very manilla color. I still to this day feel like I have a babies foot underneath my rib. I have severe gas, and no appetite. Which I have lost 15lbs in this six weeks. The only thing, to this day, that has gone away is the vomiting. I am still nauseated and still have the feeling that something is in my rib, it is just like I was pregnant (had a hysterectomy) cant find a comfortable position at night, cant sit without leaning to my left. I still have pain especially at night, it is like a sharp stabbing pain in my upper right rib. Sometimes when the DR pushes on it I can feel it going down my leg. SO, The first dr. which was a family dr. gave me a prescription of phenagren Lomital and hydrocodine. (Spelling?) I didn't fill the hydrocodione because I didn't want to Band-Aid the problem I wanted it fixed. So he ordered an ultrasound of the pancreas and liver and gallbladder. Everything came back normal. Now I have to say, when she did the ultrasound she never put the wand where it hurt, it was more up on my rib. (does this matter)? Then the DR ordered a cat scan of the same area it came back normal. In the mean time he took my blood and my white blood cell count was a little elevated and so was my liver enzymes. But he wasn't worried about it. Over that weekend I went to the ER and they ordered a hida scan, it came back normal, they sent me home with hydrocodine.Went back to the DR and he sent me to a gastronologist with a prescription of antidepressants. My stomach also bloats really bad sometimes my husband says it looks as though I am 6 months pregnant but it also goes down. Gastro DR ordered a colonoscopy and an upper GI all came back normal, maybe a blockage he said, gave me some powder to take for 2 weeks, I took it, and ate very healthy, no red meats, all fruits, veggies. Then one night went and got chili cheese dogs with husband and kids, that night woke up with sever pains in right side, nauseated, fever and the next morning my stool was manilla, it had gone back to normal before this night. He then ordered another hida scan with a dye and a mri. Hida came back 68.8% haven't gotten the results from mri yet, sent me to a surgeon told me it could be gallbladder even though test were normal. The surgeon asked me basically why I was there if all test were normal. I am so frustrated I know it cant be in my head, I cant fake all these symptoms. I have lost my job because I have been out of work for 6 weeks, so guess what else goes away? insurance! So I am desperate to find out what is wrong. My mother told me to call an internist so I have an appt with him tomorrow. Do you have any suggestions??? Could it still be gallbladder even if the test say no? Or could it be something else???

I am sorry to hear of all your pain and hope you find what is wrong soon.  About a month ago I started having  severe upper stomach pains & nausea out of no where and ended up in the hospital.  My bloodwork levels were elevated.  They did a sono, CT, x-rays and an Endoscopy and everything came back fine.  For two weeks I was still sick.  Lost 10 pounds.  Went back to the doctor and they said the next test would be a HIDA with CCK to see if the functioning of the gall bladder was the problem. I never went and then I had different pain.  I had pain in the middle of my chest that I couldn't eat or drink anything or it hurt.  It lasted three days so I finally called my GI and he was useless told me to go to my GP.  So I went to a different GI and he said the pain in my chest can be caused from my gall bladder. A week later again the pain came on so strong out of no where I ended up back in the hospital and they did bloodwork it was fine so they were going to do a HIDA SCAN but they gave me pain meds and you can not do the SCAN with any meds and the tech was leaving so they sent me home.  I finally had the HIDA done and I am waiting to hear from my doctor now.  I did find out from a friend who works where I had the test done that my gall bladder is not functioning right.  When you had the HIDA done did they do it with CCK?  That is the most important part of the test they told me.  Since I have been eating plain it seems to help I have not had pain in over a week.  Well I hope you feel better.  Don't let anyone make you feel like its in your head they were making me feel that way when all the tests came back fine.

So sorry you are feeling so terrible and cant get any help. I am not a doctor just a patient but my advice woud be to go to a Gastroentroogist or better yet, get a referral to a Heptologist.
Every one of your symptoms are cassic signs of a liver problem.
Have you been tested for Hepatitis A, B and B? Have you been checked for other liver disorders? I think you shoud get a bood test, a full CBC and have them test you for all types of hepatitis. I know it is hard to keep going to doctors and not get answers, get someone to go with you, ask quetions and demand a diagnosis. You have to be aggressive, it ooks like they are doping you with pain meds and ignoring the underying problem. Good luck, hope you find the answer soon.

You can have a liver problem and not see it on a scan. I strongly encourage you to have your liver more thoroughly checked out by a specialist. The gold standard to determine the condition of your liver is a liver biopsy. liver issues can "hide" from some tests and be somewhat difficult to figure out that is why some liver problems are known as "silent killer" diseases because they can be hard to decipher. I know, it happened to me too.

I hope you find an answer. I can relate. I am a 37 yr. old male and was extremely sick for 2-3 month's with extreme stomach pain and discomfort and pale stools which still come and go. I also have pain and discomfort, but not as bad as it was the 1st 2 month's. I had all the tests you had including a hida scan. All normal. I've learned that you just can not rely on a diagnosis on the basis of bloodwork and imaging studies. Upon visiting with a Surgeon, he decided it would be worthwhile to remove the gallbladder as he has a suspicion that is the problem, but he will also be doing a liver biopsy to check for any pathology as well as running contrast through my biliary ducts to make sure they are visualized when doing the operation and to check for biliary strictures. Oncer this is done, I will have done just about everything there is to do to find the problem. Very frustrating. Hang in there and good luck.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
It is difficult to say without examination.

That being said, you have had a pretty comprehensive evaluation, including colonoscopy, CT scan, ultrasound, HIDA scan, and upper GI series.

Various upper GI diseases - such as GERD, an ulcer, inflammation of the upper digestive tract - can cause some of the symptoms that you are describing.  Although you have had an upper GI series, an upper endoscopy is the more comprehensive test, and should be considered.

The CT scan would rule out many of the structural causes.

If the GI tests continue to be negative, you can look outside of the GI symptoms, and consider musculoskeletal causes.  A referral to a physiatrist (rehabilitation physician) can be considered if the GI tests remain negative.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
