Lupus Pancreatitis

Hi there;

I have SLE (lupus) and have been in a flare for a while.  I have gone through the ulcer route and after seeing my rhuemy on thrusday, she suggested that it may be my pancreatitis caused by the lupus becauseof my blood tests.  I suggested gallstones so we compromised and I will have both checked with an ultrasound on the 3rd of Feb.  I have pain in the upper part of my stomach and if I lie on my back it gets worse if I lie on either side it gets a bit better but it is always there.

Can anyone tell me what the symptoms are and if there is anything I need to know about this (if it is serious) since I don't go to the emergenacy room unless dragged.

Thank you,
Kerrie

Hi..I need some answers too.  My eyes are yellow now all of the sudden and my skin too.  My stool is green.  I am very worried that this might be soem sort of cancer.  My doctor has been taking blood samples and said my bilirubin is very high but liver seems ok.  He first thought it was hepititis, then he thought gallstones and now that I have had a sonigram it showed what he called gullbladder sludge?  What the heck is that?  what is it made of, could this be causing my yellowing.  Help if anyone has had this.  I am not sure what to eat or not eat.

This is in response to Angela (March 10).  How did you get on at the doctor's office?  I'm curious to know because I have exactly the same symptoms and, while I'm not in awful pain all the time, it is a burning discomfort that is very annoying and affects my work because I can't bear to sit down for too long.  I feel my waistband digging in and pressing on some sore area and, like you, I have sore ribs and a feeling like everything is "squished up" in there.
Please write back!

MY WIFE HAS CRONIC PANCREATITIS, JUST HAD A COELIAC PLEXIUS NERVE BLOCK, WHERE HOPING THIS WILL STOP THE PAIN IN HER ABDOMEN,
SHE IS ON A PAINKILLER CALLED "SEVERDOL" (160mg daily).
THE NERVE BLOCK IS WORKING NOW THIS MINUTE BUT SHE ONLY GOT IT DONE TWO DAYS AGO.
PROBLEM NOW IS "WITHDRAWLS" FROM THE OPIATE PAINKILERS.
HOW LONG ARE THEY EXPECTED TO LAST AND IS THERE ANY THING TO TAKE TO HELP HER WITH THE HEAD ACHES ETC...?

hi,
I have a  dr's appt in a few days but....
i have had this annoying feeling/pain in my right rib area...on and off for a few months....it is worse when i wear tight fitting clothes...way worse...and when I am sitting....when I lay down it does not hurt really except occasionally when i lay on my right side.  My ribs are sometimes tender on the bottom right but not always!?  sometimes it aches on the right side about where my bottom two ribs are..on very the side of my body and sometimes just in the front about 3 ribs up from the bottom about a few inches towards the middle of my stomach from my ribs...and other times it kind of hurts in my back.  I can't figure out what it is??  Sometimes the pain is dull, other times it burns.  I have no other symptoms except a feeling of something out of place in there.  I have gained 20lbs in the alst few months so I thought it might be due to that...like i am out of room down there or something!? I don't really think that is the case though It does not always hurt.  When it does hurt so far it is not severe at all.  Lately I have been bloated but I do not know if that is related or not?  Am I dying here?   My mom was just recently diagnosed with breast cancer unfortunately so I am more of a hypochondriach than normal... If anyone knows what it might be please write me.  They wont let me post on this board! -Angela   ***@****

Thank you for your responses.  I ended up in the hospital and we think we have the answers to my problem it is inflammation of the
stomach lining caused by the lupus (not an ulcer).  I am going in for one more test thrusday now but at least we know it is not the
gallbadder or the pancreas.

Thank you again for your responses.

Dear Kerrie,
Pamcreatitis canbe one of the complications of lupus- either a direct result of the vasculitis or an adverse effect of the medications that you take,  It is always necessary to exclude gallstone-induced pancreatitis because stones can cause a more severe pancreatitis as well as cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct).

Pnacreatiti susually presents with sharp painin th ecenter of the abomen near the ribs.  The pain may go straiught through to the back.  pain is increased by eating and relieved by lying on the back with knees bent or sitting up and leaning forward.  Loss of appetitie and vomiting can occur.  There may be yellow eyes, dark urine and pale stool.  In general terms, if you have pancreatitis then you should contact your doctor when you have any of the above symnptoms or a change in your usual abdominal pains.

You sound like me.  I have pain in the upper part of my stomach and it gets worse during the night.  I feel like it is making it hard for me to breath...I don't like going to the doctor either.
I had a battery of tests done for low blood pressure...they couldn't find the cause.. less than 80 over 30...and that was when I was feeling better.  They did all kinds of test...and nothing indicated why.  Now I have this problem and I don't want tests because so far they have not produced answers
