NAUSEA

kim
IN OCTOBER I STARTED TAKING TOPROL XL FOR NEUROCARDIOGENIC SYNCOPE. A MONTH LATER I STARTED FEELING NAUSEOUS, NOT JSUT SOMETIMES, BUT ALL DAY-EVERY DAY.  MY DOCTOR JUST ASSUMED IT WAS A SIDE EFFECT OF THE MEDICATION AND HAD ME START TAKING IT AT A DIFFERENT TIME.  THE NAUSEA STILL CONTINUED, AND 3 WEEKS AGO I STOPPED TAKING THE MEDICATION.  I'M STILL FEELING NAUSEOUS THOUGH, AND NOW I ALSO HAVE SOME STOMACH DISCOMFORT.  NOT A PAIN, JUST DISCOMFORT.  I DON'T HAVE ACID REFLUX, BUT I HAVE NOTICED THAT I HAVE BEEN BELCHING A LOT AND AT NIGHT I CAN FEEL SOMETHING BUBBLING IN THE BACK OF MY THROAT, KIND OF LIKE DRINKING A SODA.  I HAVE TRIED TAKING PEPCID & MYLANTA, BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO HELP.  COULD THE MEDICATION HAVE GIVEN ME AN ULCER OR SOME OTHER TYPE OF STOMACH PROBLEM?  I DO FEEL BETTER FOR A SHORT TIME WHEN I EAT SOMETHING, BUT THE NAUSEA ALWAYS COMES BACK.  I JUST WANT TO FEEL BETTER AGAIN.  I'M GOING TO SEE MY DOCTOR IN A COUPLE OF DAYS.  WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I too have had this problem of being nauseous all the time.  It started 4 years ago, and then seemed to get better by lessing, giving me short spurts of time with feeling find only to then feel nauseous again for weeks on end.  I've seen more doctors in the past 4 years then I have in my whole life.  I'm only 26. Last march I had my Gallbladder removed, doc's told me that this was my problem.  Since then its the same thing, for weeks I'll feel ok, and then one night after dinner I'll feel sick and then it start all over again. I've had and upper GI done the tell me I a delayed digestive system, Gerd, and stomach spasams, but they don't have a clue as to why I feel nauseous all the time. I hate the way this has affected my life, I stay in more, avoid going on vacations, out to dinner, movies, all because I can't stand feeling this way and being out. I wish I knew what to do, or what there was I could do to stop feeling this way.  Pepsid didn't help, having my gallbladder out didn't stop it, and over the counter nausea meds don't help.  Sometimes I feel like why should I even go on if this is the way I have to live the rest of my life.

My 13 year old son developed severe nausea and vomiting overnight. After pepcid, mylanta, enemas, endoscopy,ct scans and 2 months off of school, I decided to take him off all milk products. I discovered that he became extremely lactose intolerant. He cannot handle any lactose (even baked goods etc.) After 4 days, the vomiting completely stopped, and he was back to normal!! He now uses lactase pills every time he eats anything, and he avoids all dairy products.  It is so nice to have my "son" back. I believe that the intolerance was caused by antibiotics taken for a sinus infection. The many doctors he went to never mentioned this as a possibility. He never did have diarrhea, just constant vomiting, gas, pain, and constipation.  I hope this helps.

I started having stomach problems March 31 of 2000, I finally went to the doctor and he gave me prevacid.  It worked and I stayed off of it until 3 days ago, now I feel continuous nausea, and I just feel like I'm going to throw up 24/7.  I can't take it, there's got to be an answer somewhere!  I don't have insurance, so I cannot afford to go to the doctor and have any tests ran.  If anyone finds a cure, put it on here, quick!

I am having simialr problems . The other day I coughed so hard something in my throat popped and then I felt fine. But, now a few days later I am feeling sick . Stomach ache bubbling in the back of my throat and a sore throat. The nausea comes and goes I can feel the nausea coming on and I can feel the bubbles moving thru my abdomin and then I get a hungry feeling but, while that is happening I cant even think of food. As for my throat I have no idea what is causing any of this. My doctor put me on pecid before bed and I take about 3 tums during the day. I also belch a lot. Except when I get this sick feeling. The first thing the Dr asked about the popping is if it smelt funny or tasted funny but it didnt and he told me right out " I have no idea what that was" but, if the nausea continues call back, well Im waiting for his return call. I also feel very anxious. Wierd feeling. I just want to find out what the problem is Im only 34.

Hi Please Help me! My boyfriend has been suffering with stomach pains and nausea for months now. He seems to throw up every morning and sometimes at night before bed. When he does throw up it usually isnt food and it looks yellow and is watery. Years ago he went to the doctor and they prescribed Ranitidine for the stomach pains but never followed up on it. The throwing up comes and goes,he will be fine for a week or two, eat fine then all of a sudden he will have a bad couple of days with heavy nausea and pains. He also seems to throw up when he takes a shower as well. He wont go to the doctors yet because he will feel fine then get sick so he thinks he is ok. I try telling him that he needs to go and get it checked out. Is there any explanation to what these symptoms might be? I would appreciate any help. Thank You

I had my gallbladder removed 3 years ago because of severe nausea, there was a large stone there but they usually don`t cause a problem ( it`s the small stones.) Much to my dismay, the nausea continued maybe even worsened. I had developed severe allergys and attributed the nausea to the mucus draining into stomach. Meds. to dry up sinuses eventuall stopped working. I am sick to my stomach all day nearly every day. My quality of life has steadily lessened. My ENT is of no help or understanding. If there is anyone out there who has experienced this, please notify. If someone comes up with an answer it will be the happiest dAY OF MY LIFE!!!!!

Hi,

In 1995, the FDA was forced to reveal, under the Freedom of Information Act, 92 symptoms caused by aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet)  Vomiting and nausea were No. 4.

For more information, please go to www.dorway.com and http://aspartamekills.com

I have nausea with occasional dizziness. My blood workup so far shows everything is normal, however, I feel far from normal. Queezy all the time, dizzy sometimes, and fatique. My liver function test is normal, and no H.Pylori bacteria in my stomach. Taking Pepcid twice a day and about 9 tums. Any ideas what this could be?

I have a similar problem.    I am nauseas all the time, day and  night.   It is accompanied by a headache and neck ache and nothing I take (motrin, tylenol, sinus meds) seems to help.   It is really becoming a burden in my life.   I had Hep C but was recently told I no longer have it after a one year drug treatment.    I am in excellent health otherwise, I think.   Any ideas??

My husband has similar problem, of bloating, but his stomache gets so distented, then he throws up. He has tested positive for the H.pylori.  He has taken the regiment of antibiotics and is waiting for the (breath test).  Why is he still throwing up.  He also gets very hard stools and has to have an enima.  Could there be a relation here, with the throwing up and the constipation?  I am at my wits end trying to figure out something to help him.  He is on real High Powered Heart medication, and has a pacer-defibulator.  This throwing up takes so much out of him that he just sleeps all the time.  HELP!!!

I am not a Doctor, but I can tell you that my mother experienced nearly identical symptoms after having taken Toprol XL for an idiopathic cardiomyopathy.  You can refer to my post in the cardiology forum from about 2 weeks ago.  I personally beleive the Toprol adversly affected my mothers heard which inturn caused her Liver to become "backed up" leading to her GI pain.

DEar Kim,
When you see your doctor, ask about having a workup for this problem.  If the symptoms are related to Toprol, they should resolve with stooping the drug.  Persistent symptoms should raise the possibility of another drug reaction or other conditions.
