Pale Colored Stool

Recently I had a pale colored stool.  To give some background on me, I have been a moderate to heavy drinker for about 3 year but have recently quit.  About a week ago I came down with some type of intestinal virus, as far as I can tell.  Symptoms included mild nausea and very wet diarrhea.  It lasted for about 7-8 days, and during day 4 I noticed that one of the stools was very grey, the next day the stool was not grey but rather light colored.  It wasn't white, but I guess extremely lighth yellowish.  Now, I have read that pale stools can indicate a liver problem, but I get have blood tests done every year and my last blood test indicated that all liver tests were very normal, except for a very slightly elevated bilirubin level.  My doctor told me that given all the test results, he diagnosed me as having Gilbet's Syndrome.  I realize that drinking is bad for the body, so I have quit.  Should I have something to worry about here with relation to the colored stools?

High bilirubin is a cause of yellowish stools.  (It is the cause of jaundice, and yellow stools can be part of this).  I would definitely re-test and see what your liver function tests look like, bilirubin included.

Malabsorption (where you are not digesting your food)can cause light colored stools

To put your mind at ease, you might get the blood test repeated and see what the bili is doing. Good for you to quit drinking. Hopefully only 3 years did not do much damage to your liver. Yes, I've read that light colored stools happen with liver problems. Are you jaundiced? My husband got jaundice with mono last year and his urine was bright yellow, like orange.
