Positive blood in stool, upper and lower endoscopy, reflux

Hi, I haven't been on this forum in awhile as I had a lengthy wait for a gastroenterologist consultation. But I finally had my appt. this week. I've started Nexium for severe reflux, and I had a positive blood in stool test, so yesterday I had to collect a bunch of samples and deliver them to the lab (yuk!) and in July I'm scheduled for an upper and lower endoscopy. My uncle died last month of colon cancer and another uncle has esophagus cancer right above his stomach from reflux disease. I'm a 37 yr. old female. I know I'll just have to wait till after I do all my tests, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone on this forum had a similar situation and how horrible these tests are going to be. I also have a disease in my bladder called interstitial cystitis, it's related to chrones...my bladder is full of hemorhages.

No, I don't have chrones. (at least they didn't diagnose that yet, but they're going to look for that and cancer when I get the colonoscopy). But I have severe IC and also inflamation in alot of other places in my body. I have, since the IC started, developed arthritis in my hands, and some kind of problem with my heart, my EKGs are so abnormal that they thought something was really wrong and I had a heart catheterization...they don't know what's causing the tachycardia and lack of oxygen, they think I'm getting coronary artery spasms. That makes sense, my bladder's constantly in a spasm, why not my heart or other muscles. Smooth muscles, I think that's what's giving me the heartburn too, isn't the stomach a smooth muscle? You're right, it's just so frustrating to have all this stuff going wrong but not know why. I wasn't surprised that they found blood in my stool, I've had blood in my urine for 15 years, I guess just about everything in my body is inflamed. Sorry this is so long, but I just get really upset.

Thanks, that doesn't sound too bad.

Terry,
Have you been over to the IC-network? (board) It's great. I too have IC. Isn't it the pits? I swear, all this inflammation has to do with something. How did you find out that you had crohns? I guess you had a colonoscopy?

Hi, I don't have any of your symptoms, but I did have an upper endoscopy.  Mine went fine for me.  They put me to sleep, and I didn't feel a thing.  Before I knew it I was awake in the recovery room.   Afterwards my throat was a little sore and I was tired for the rest of the day, but that was about it for me.  Good luck with yours.  Julie
