Question

I have been experiencing odorous discharge in my belly button along with some tenderness in the area.  Is this something I should be concerned about?

Looking for various infections would be reasonable.  Sometimes around the navel area it can get moist, leading to a possibility of fungal growth.  A physical exam or culture of the area should be done to evaluate for bacterial/fungal infection or dermatitis/inflammation of the area.  Treatment can be done with various topical medications.

If the exam is non-revealing, a referral to a dermatologist can be considered.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Bacteria can infect the belly button, often after fungi has done its damage. This leads to scabbing and a yellowish discharge and you need to see a doctor for some antibiotic cream.

It could be psoriasis - I have it on my elbows, anal area and belly button. I went to see a Dermatologist and got a new medication called Silkis (calcitriol) and it has cleared it up. The belly button exuded a white odorous cream like substance - it has all gone now.
