My doc explained the hida test as follows:

They injected me with radioactive isotopes, took pictures every 15 minutes for about 45 minutes with a machine.  Then, they injected me with another drug that would make my gallbladder empty.  THey took pictures/video of that.  WHat the test does is compute the rate at which your gallbladder functions.  APparently, it's supposed to release a certain amount of bile in a certain amount of time.  In my case, my gallbladder is releasing only one half of what it should be releasing.  I hope that helps.

Your problem sounds similar to the problems I've had.  My pain is right in the middle, under my sternum, goes straight into my back, and has also hurt on the right side.  I thought it was my stomach.  The GI docs thought it was my gallbladder.  The sonogram showed nothing.  I had a HIDA scan of my gallbladder.  That showed that it was not functioning properly.  (about 1/2 of what it should be)  I'm now scheduled to have it removed.  My pain started in December and was about every 2 weeks, but now it's every day or every other day.  My gallbladder is "diseased" according to my GI Doc.  You may want to ask about having a HIDA scan on your gallbladder.  Good luck to you!

You described your tests but not your pain. Where is it? There is no doctor here, only patient to patient. If your stomach hurts when you eat it could be anything. If it's your chest or throat then it's more likely reflux or heartburn related to your "sliding hernia". Try eating smaller amounts more often and avoid acidy foods like cofee and chocolate, onions, etc. Elevate your bed on bricks and don't eat too close to bedtime. Other pain from eating could include your gallbladder. You need a doctor to help you sort it out. If you're in pain, don't just wait it out, call them up and get a sooner appointment.
