Had some blood work done and my iron content was much too high. How can I lower it with diet?

Did your doctor tell you how high your iron count was? Percent of saturation or ferritin levels? Did he suggest any treatment such as blood letting?
My brother has high iron (Hemochromatosis OR IRON OVERLOAD DISEASE).  He avoids iron in his diet, but the best way to get rid of the iron is by blood letting.  Diet won't make a significant difference.
You need to follow-up on this with your doctor if he has only made suggestions of eating a low iron diet. You could also do a computer search for the American Hemochromatosis Society and they will have the information you need.
