What could be the cause of the above condition when overall health is good, bowel movements are regular. A sigmoid exam indicated normal and a colonoscopy is forthcoming. This conditon has been present for several years. Any ideas?

Do you drink enough liquids? How is your fiber Intake? In most cases not enough fluid and to much fiber will cause this to happen. Try a stool softener and see if that helps. Do you have any accompanying pain with this?
