Sloan Kettering Doctors on Katie Couric show this morning

I was very surprised to hear 2 doctors talking about Esophageal cancer this morning.  They were from the Sloan Kettering Cancer hospital in NYC.

They indicated more men get this and around middle age.  They state it is the result of changes in the esophagus.

I did not hear it all but the male doctor indicated that they are investigating meds like Zantac, Pepcid, Prilosec and some other meds that I did not hear, to see if "possibly" these meds could cause changes in the espohagus.

Katie asked them if people taking them should now get off these meds and the female doctor told her no, not at this time and to speak with one's own physician.

VERY INTERESTING INFORMATION, this morning.

Seems everyday we hear of more meds that may cause problems.

They did indicate that people with symptoms need to be scoped at a good center.

Thanks for sharing the url site although I could not hear the conversation.  (sometimes my computer is ornary)

The male doctor that talked before the female doctor listed the drugs in question and yes......this is very scary.

I wonder if the drug manufacturers are saying anything!!!!!!!!!!

We have the No.1 cancer center here in our city.  I will contact them to see what their thoughts are on this.

This is too scary! What on earth is going on? Why can't they figure this thing out? This is why it's SO imprtant to be scoped, even the doctor says it.

I did not see a thing about this in our morning newpaper.  I did call my gastro's nurse yesterday and she said there were several calls about this on her answering machine from people who saw the show. She is investigating and checking this information out.
